Loomlight is a woven lamp kit that provides an experience in meditative self-reflection and creative expression. The design brings together light and a unique loom, which together creates a calming, de-stressing pastime for the user. The repetitive motions in weaving have been long regarded as helping to refocus and reset the mind. The user made woven component adds an element of personal connection to the design, allowing it to bring comfort even after the weaving is complete.

user customizes design by weaving through loom
This project was inspired by my fascination with textiles and handcrafted skills such as weaving. Weaving, an art form that tells stories through intricate patterns, possesses an heirloom quality that can endure across generations. Central to this craft is the loom, an ancient tool essential for weaving threads into beautiful fabrics. This project explores how the creative act of weaving serves as a method of self-care and can support one’s mental health. Research suggests that engaging in “purposeful and creative ‘doing’” fosters mindfulness and is a way to be present in the moment. The repetitive motions of weaving, similar to meditation, promote relaxation and a sense of calm.
